Wow its been a while since I posted... Time flies when you are having "fun".... ie...work...
Well, To my pleasant surprise I won a give away over at One Simple County Girl.... Donna sure can put together a prize pack. Got my goodies in the mail so I wanted to show them off...

Now you cant see it but down in the part cut off... (stupid picture taker :/ ... Is a pocket calendar... quite handy I must say... I had to hurry and take the pic as my 9 yo was about the steal the Hershey Kiss...Yummmm.... The coasters, the pillow and the blocks all went on the mantel in my living room....

As you can tell I am very pleased with my goodies... So if you get a chance go visit Donna at her blogsite... itw worth a visit...

My Salvation Army Finds

Sorry folks, I dont usually post twice in one day but I couldnt wait to share...My oldest and I went out today to spend some quality time so that means browsing in Good Will, Salvation Army, Ross Dress for Less and Target...
Got some stuff.... but my favorites were from the Salvation Army. I found a candle globe, a 3 ft trencher, berry/star wreath, a wooden spoon and a pot (no pic of the pot)

Simple Joy~Beautiful Blessings

Its a cold rainy, icy morning here in central PA, but as I sit here sipping a hot cup of coffee, I wanted to share my thoughts.
I am blessed... Yes I whine and complain, and there are things that happen out of my control that I dont like, but I am truely blessed. Here are some reasons why: Some simple joys.....

A hot cup of coffee on a cold morning
Seeing the beauty of huge snowflakes falling (even tho I hate snow)
Ice coated trees- as long as the electricity stays on
A cute doggy snuggling in bed in the early morning
Two girls giggling in the night
No where I HAVE to be
Hubby being home
Teen in a good mood
Upcoming breakfast that I dont have to cook!!

This week has been crazy... Evaluations at work, more work than I know what do do with. A cranky 9 yo who is destined to be a lawyer who likes to argue about EVERYTHING. Then a pipe burst in the garage flooding it with about an inch or two of water. The first nice we had ice, I went out to pick up my teen and slipped down 3 concrete steps... and let me tell you... those bruises hurt. Thank God I didnt hit my head....

So... Friday at quitten time was a real joy.... had some me time. (if you call grocery shopping alone me time) and some cuddle time with the hubby...
So I am going to enjoy this weekend... Friends, food and fun is in order.

Welcome to my House

My sister and I were texting this afternoon back and forth. She was sharing pics of her new apartment and I told her I wished she could come see my house.... so her response was... Text them to me!!

Soooo I went around and took a few pics downstairs. Now I have to qualify these with ... the house is in a constant state of disaster... 2 kids, 4 pets and mama and daddy who work full time... but here goes.

This is one part of our "blue room" a formal living room... we have 2 rooms downstairs that are just huge... this is looking in the left of one doorway. There are 2 doors into the room. See the 6 ft tall windows? The bottom part opens. You can just see the fireplace (non working but we hope to put a gas insert in it) in the right of the pic... just the corner...

Here is my living room... opposite of the blue room, separated by the hallway... the 8 foot windows here as well and the ceiling in both rooms are 12 or 14 ft. We have a litte stove that looks like a shadow on the left.. we need to have it inspected to see if it is usable.... There is fireplace mantle on the left behind the stove... lots of pottery/antiques on there. I posted a few pics of that quite a while ago...

Dining room is next... table is pushed to the other side of the room as you can see... the door on the right goes into the hall for the blue room. The white door goes to the basement and the door on the left goes to the living room... Somebody please save me from the pink on the walls... ughhhhh

And last on this trip... the kitchen... small gally ish... with gray cabinets and ugly wallpaper.... sorry its a mess... just finished whipping up some food.... this is the room I want to redo first.... white cabinets with a barn red on the walls above the white beadboard.... so we shall see!!

Thats most of downstairs... didnt take you in the laundy, or the outporch room... maybe next time...
The house is 111 years old... built in 1900... In pretty darn good shape for her age....

Big Snow and Little Snow and a Stink Bug

Hello again folks. I guess like so many of you here on the East coast... we got snow again. I guess I really shouldnt complain as thus far its not been toooooo horrible (shhhh).

However, we still have February to go and that is typically when we get our largest snows. Thanks to my brother in law, I have not had to do much shoveling this year. He has done most of it for me and boy does my back ever appreciate it.
The snow we got the other night made driving home quite the activity. The snow was blowing straight toward the windshield making visiability just awful. However, once home it was beautfiul to watch... just looking up in the sky and seeing quarter sized flakes falling straight down and quieting the earth... just heavenly... So I wanted to share a pic of it with you... I had two.. but my phone/camera is not cooperating... (probably the user).

Shee how big the flakes were and how fast they were falling? Crazy.... See the tiny snowman on the right... My oldest daughter knows how much I LOVE snowmen so she made a baby one for me.... too cute!!!

Now... my headiing says.... Stink Bug... What the heck?
Did you know that the ugly stinky bug can sting? First of all... how the heck can those suckers be living in January... 2nd... oh yes... I found out the hard way... I was snuggling with my pillow the other night when all of a sudden I felt a sting on my chin... Dang it that stinker didnt sting me... or bite me or whatever it did... I have a dime sized mark on the side of my face... almost like a burn.... like you'd get with a curling iron.... but it also itches at the same time. I guess that stinker either didnt want to share my pillow or didnt want to cuddle. I tried to get a pic of it but the droid phone isnt user friendly to take self pics.. (or user error).

Either way, I will live... So... thats it for now... Watch out for those stink bugs and stay warm!!

A New Year and a Re-Do

Now as many of you may know, over a year ago we moved into our new home. A 110 year old victorian type house. I love this house and the previous owner took fantastic care of this house and we still speak occassionally. Lovely lady...
Well now... There are a few cosmetic things I want to do... One of them is to repaint the top part of our dining room... Currently it is a pinkish/purple color with the white beadwork .. love the beadboard... the color above... ummm not so much... Pics later on that one...
Hubby and I cannot quite agree on a color as of yet... so it remains... ummm purkle...

Now the kitchen is what I dislike the most.... Gray whitewashed cabinets and old peeling (read... ugly) wallpaper... so instead of working on teh dining room, hubby and I actually agreed on what to start with in the kitchen...
The current plan is to paint the cabinets white and change the hardware... easy as pie... What to do with the walls is a bigger problem... There appears to be NO insulation in the outer walls... our glasses come out chilled from the cabinets but as I cannot afford someone to come blow insulation... its gotta wait... unless someone has a better option??

I started peeling wallpaper to see what Im dealing with and it appears there is just some paint under it... Okay... check... easy enough... Now I just need to decide what to paint it. I am thinking of going red... but have heard reds are hard to paint.... may end up red with some faux something so it doesnt look so bad... and I am thinking that with the kitchen cabinets white... the red wont make the kitchen tooooooo small. (Its small enough as is).. So i bought some white paint and will try it on one of the cabinet doors this week to see how it looks.

Now where my hutch is is where the old owners hutch was and her is a bit bigger... they apparently build a soffet thingy over it.. and as mine is shorter..... you can see under it... and talk about some reallllyyyyy old ugly wallpaper... will prob tear it down and put the molding with the rest... Here.. take a look

This is the current wallpaper... you can see where I am pulling it down and you can see on the left is the blue paint under it.

See the reallly ugly paper... and if you look on the very left you can see where the stovepiping for the cookstove used to be....
So... now its time to see what I can do... cheaply....

The countertop is a gray/white speckled counter..... will have to leave it or now... or use the counter paint to re-do it...

Death of the Morning Brew

Alas dear friends.. there has been a death in the househould.... Last week, I noticed that a part of broken on my trusty Mr. Coffee.... But... it was still workable... just had to wiggle the top just right and it would close...
No problem... right?

Well, this morning, I had my dear friend ready to roll for an early 5:50 brew (heck normal is 6:10) and was sooooooo ready for my hugeeeee mug o joe this morning... ummmm I was drooling just thinking bout it... nothing better on a colddddd icy morning than a hot cup of coffee......

Staggering down the stairs in my slippers.... .hmmmm no smell of coffee... weird....
Hmmmm, pots not a brewing... hmmmm did I set the timer wrong (wouldnt be the first time).... so I just toddled on over and pressed the on button...

Staggered on into the living room to check on the road conditions... icy ya know.... when I hear a "CRRAACCKKK" from the kitchen....

Yep, you guessed it... NOOOOOOOOOO coffee and a broken coffee pot...

Soooo what to do.... ??? I need some advice folks...
Should I replace my Mr coffee with the current one.... or should I replace with???

Which uses the K cups? I am the only one who drinks coffee....
Help me out here folks... these are pricey.... are they worth it? Am I gonna feel really guilty if I buy something expensive...

All opinions welcome!!!

Happy Farm Show Week

Here in central PA, its now Farm Show week. A very packed week of lots of people, food and farm animals. Today we decided to venture there with the kids and had a great time. I ate a powedered potato donut, 1/2 a milkshake, fried cheese cube and a fried mushroom. Now not the most nutritionous (is that a word?) and Im certain lots of folks broke their New Years resolutions but this is the Only time of the year I have milkshake and verrrrrrryyyyyy few times throughout the year do I have a donut or something deep fried.

But let me tell ya... it was YUMMMMYYYYY....

Also this weekend I was a busy bee making egg rolls Thanks to my wonderful mother in law I have taken her recipe and made it our own.. now again, not the lowest calorie choices but I bet you could brush with egg wash and bake them and it would be just as good... so here we go...
8 oz mozerella cheese
2 - 16 oz bags of frozen veggies (carrots, brocolli, califlower, corn etc)
1 to 1 1/2 lbs ground turkey or beef
rice ( I use about 6 cups cooked)
I microwave my veggies while browning my turkey. i have my rice already cooked and ready to go.
I do season my meat/rice with adobo or any other spices you like.

I use a mini chopper to mince my veggies and mix all of the above together.
I take bout 2 tablespoons per eggroll wrapper and roll and seal.
I then take them and deep fry them in a frying pan on the stove until golden brown . This make about 40-45 egg rollls
The whole family loves these and except for the deep frying part are really healthy and great for those non veggie eaters.

So thats what I did this weekend.... I hear we are getting snow this week... happens quite often with Farm Show week... but I guess we are due.

Happy New Year 2011

Good morning folks... saw the New Year come in with some friends and family. Was a nice relaxing evening. Lots of food and fun.. Some of our guests had to go home early, but thats okay... the new year started anyway....

Hope this year is the best one ever. Still cant believe its 2011. Seems like just yesterday we were partying like its 1999... then the big "crash" of all the computers of 2000.... Wow...

Resolutions this year?? None really... just to send the time I have on this earth enjoying it with my family... watching my girls grow into women and spending time with friends... Sound great huh?

Merry Post Christmas

We survived another year... I think. Overall it was a great Christmas. However, hubby and oldest daughter were sick with the stomach bug that has been going around...

Our inlaws were down from NH but unfortunately had to leave early cause of the snow that was headed to New England... boo hoo... but it was great to see them for a couple of days anyway.

Wanted to share some pics of Christmas morning. Holy Cow you should have seen the pile o gifts under the tree. We keep trying to simplify each year but somehow it doesnt seem to happen. I should enjoy while they last... kids will only be kids for a little while.

WOW 5 days till Christmas!!! Where did the year go? Not sure we are going to have a WHITE Christmas.. but you dont hear me complaining at alll... NOOOOO SNNNOOOOWWWWW.....

Wanted to share a new addition to my snowman collection and my weekend project...
Now I loveeee snowmen.... Primitive, modern, fat, thin, I like'em all... So here is one we picked up on out trip to NJ to see a friend of ours...

Isnt he a cutie? Will have to put a candle in him and see how he glows... Will try to remember to take a pic of that too...

Now my weekend project was a fun one.. I had little elves as helpers so it did not go quickly but was entertaining.... I'm a semi soap maker (meaning I do it periodically and only do melt/pour) I hope to graduate to cold method soon... but for this adventure.... Here we are:

Wednesday Wonder

Today I am off work and just hanging out with my hubby before he goes to work. We dont currently get to see each other much during the week, so we are gonna do a bit of Christmas shopping and have lunch together before he goes to work.

Took a pic of the tree, however Its a bit dark.. but thought I would share anyway....

Also want to post a picture of my girls... now kids will be kids and despite the 6 yr age difference they get along soooo lovingly... or not! The night of the Cabaret my 16yo was so filled with good will and good spirits....

Also thought I'd add a pic of my hubby and I. We were visiting friends out near Pittsburgh and had a great time!!! Ignore the face I was making... the sun was killing me...

Holy Moly

Couple of dear friends and relatives asked me why I hadn't blogged in awhile... (somebody does read this?) so I figured I'd better get a move on...
Getting closer and closer to Christmas and I am in the spirit!! Tree is up and decorated, MOST of the Christmas gifts are bought, some are even wrapped and under the tree!
Today is a cold winters day, cold rain, blustry.... so what does that mean??? COOKING AND BAKING.

Planning on a huge pot o soup.. my hamburger soup...
1lb ground beef or turkey, well seasoned
1 can carrots
1 can of corn
1bag of noodles
chicken/beef broth
add any other spices or ingredients that sound good
Mix all together and allow to simmer.... ymmmm quick simple and warm in the tummy

Am also planning on baking some cookies. I wish my outer Betty Crocker was as good as my inner one... I have great cookie plans and hope they turn out well....

Will have to post some pics soon of our tree.... Love to sit by the tree and just watch the lights.... very relaxing.

Long Hot Summer

Wow, it's been forever since I posted anything, but living life to its fullest. We've been doing lots of riding this summer which gives me and the hubby some alone time without the kids and some adult time when we go to group events.
I must say I am very happy hubby decided to get another bike!
The event we attended last night was in MD for the Hometown Hero's organization. They had two of our wounded vets there who were gracious enough to be the spokepersons for the event. Hopefully they raised lots of money for this very worthy cause.
Here is a pic of just the IO guys and a few sponsors and our spokepersons. Several folks had already left so the group is actually a bit smaller and did not include us ladies or the motorcycle support folks. Sorry the quality is not great... but we had a great turnout!Here are a couple of us as well...

All in all it was a great day... Weather was perfect for riding and the leather coming home last night really felt good!!

Would like everyone to keep in mind our group is sponsoring a Cancer Ride Oct 10th. It a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. All the bikes are donating $10 a bike. In addition we are accepting addtional donations as well and those names will be written on a poster board and we will ride in memory of or support of whomever you choose.... If you would like to dontate, let me know... if not, just pray for good weather and a good turnout!!

Well, thats it for me right now folks! Off to do some additional riding before the weather gets cold and I will start crafting again!

Well Hello There

I figured I'd better check in before I forget I even exist. Life is full and busy, which is a good think.
Dear Hubby is home, off the road and we are all very happy. He has taken a 3-11 Monday thru Friday and an occasional saturday. I hope it turns out to be as good as they are saying it is... We sure could use the break.

My oldest is going to her dad's for 2 weeks. They are already trying to talk her into coming to live with them, but she is my girl, my mama's girl and she won't go. Not that I would let her anyway...lol.

My baby girl is going to her Noonie's for a week. They get some 1:1 time and mommy and daddy get a break.I'm happy they get to spend some time together this summer. Will be good for her.

Work is going well... if you remember (or not), I left my old company for a new one... We have had some folks who have left or are leaving but for the most part I am not sorry to see them go. One was just cancerous and told numerous lies about me and my boss before and after we came to the company. All the stories are coming to light and its just amazing....
So hopefully, possibly, maybe... some re-organization is going to go on and I maybe getting the managers position. I hope so... I feel like I am doing that level of work now, or I'm delusional...lol...

So... with the Motorcycle club, we have been spending time with them and getting to know other folks... Its a lot of fun and this is the perfect time of year to ride. So we are really enjoying the fun and hope to continue to some time to come....

Thats me in a nutshell.. I could go all philosophical on here or crafty (which I have not been lately), but for now will just say good-bye.

Family....

Have been doing lots of thinking about family lately...Family means a lot more than just blood relatives. Family means anyone you have let into your heart and soul. It means being there for one another no questions asked. It means smacking you upside the head when you screw up (not physically) but still being beside you to help you thru.

I have blood family... fewer and fewer and I dont hear from most of them anymore... but I love them and know they love me...

I have my married family.. who have opened their hearts, homes and shared their lives with me as well...

And I my friends family... just a few... but people I love to spend time with and cherish.

I am blessed... some are alone by circumstance or by choice, but I just have to pick up the phone for any of my family to talk with me, to listen to me vent... to share my joy.

So you are you are part of my blood family, friend family or marriage family... I Love You all.. .and truely cherish each of you.

And if I dont have a pic of you... Send me one...

Where does the time go?

What a weekend! It certainly was very busy. Had about 15 people over for our Summer Celebration... aka Sean and Riley's birthday party and Father's Day. Although it was very hot, we cooked out, spent most of the day indoors but everyone enjoyed getting to know each other better and eating... Some of the folks had not seen our house so we were giving the grand tour for them.

After the cookout our friends stayed and the new Iron Order Motorcycle club - the Gearheads Crew was born. Dave the president "patched in" both Sean and our other friend Damian. So we now have a President, VP and Business Manager.

Sunday was a riding day for sure... we left here on the bike about 7:30 and headed out... at one point we had 6 bikes with 10 people.. Beautiful day to ride.

Hubby bought my vest for when us girls join the group as a "maiden".... it was a pre worn vest obviously by a Maiden because you could tell where the patches were on previously.... too funny!

Whats good to eat?

Happy Sunday everyone, I figured I'd better write before folks think I died... lol

Was craving some pizza the other day and really didnt want to eat a huge amount of carbs... just makes me crave more... sooooo found website with THE BEST low carb pizza crust...

Now before you curl up your nose at this creation.. I'd have to say... just try it... I gave it to my 8yo and she had NO idea what it was made of until after she ate 1/2 the pizza and I told her what it was....

Here's the recipe ...

1 cup of riced cauliflower... (steamed/cooked and chopped up to "rice-like" consistency)
1 cup of mozzarella cheese
1 egg
pizza spices (oregano, garlic,
Mix it all up... put it on a welllllll greased cookie sheet/pizza pan ( I made 2 pan sized pizzas)... pretty thin in the middle... a bit thicker on the outside..
400 degrees for 12 minutes or so... (think I baked mine a bit longer and had to flip it to get it to brown on both sides)

When its done, cool for 5 then add your pizza sauce, cheese and other toppings.
Here is the final result, I ended up having to eat it with a fork but holy moly was it ever good.....

Happy Sunday

Happy Sunday all, once again I made it thru another week... I dont even know how... GEEZ what a week.
This week was hell on the truck... I ran and ran and ran....
Riley had to go to the orthodontist, softball game, kids friend house, pcp and eye doctor.

Riley had a clear something stuck in her cornea and so we spent some quality time at the eye dr place... And we gotta go back this week for a checkup to make sure all is well. Her vision is still a bit blurry but is getting better every day.

Last night we went to a biker party with some friends... now dont freak out folks.. these are NOT the Hells Angels, lets cause trouble and raise hell type.
These are law abiding, good ole boys who want to be part of a brotherhood and have a good time. We are law abiding folks who just like to be a part of something. We have police, truck drivers, hard working men... No felons or law breakers allowed...
And it was fun. This was an event that we could even take the kids too.. Just a lot of food, drinks, Bikes bikes and more bikes and some fun...

This week, I hope to get things setted a bit... Still gonna do some running, but we are planning my dd2's birthday bash (for the adults~ the kid part comes later) and getting ready for that.

Thats about it for now.

Happy Memorial Day

I am wishing all of my blogger friends a wonderful Memorial Day. I am truely thankful for all the military friends and family who have served, are currently serving and will serve in the future. I have true respect for all of those whose truely sacrifice for our freedoms. One of my youngest memories is of looking at my dads old army pictures when he served, and my uncles... Then I grew up to marry an Air Force man whose brother served in the Navy and whose son is now in the Army.
Now my current husband was in the Army briefly but has cousins and relatives who have served and are currently serving. I have close friends who are currently serving and its almost as hard on the family as it is on our servicemen as well. I have huge respect for you as well.
I hope no one takes our freedoms lightly. Make yourself part of America, Vote, listen to the news, get involved. This is OUR country. Let's defend and make America a proud place to live, not subservient to the world. These colors dont run... .and if you dont like them... GO HOME..... you are not wanted here!!
Okay.. .off my soapbox now...

Yesterday was a great day. The weather was perfect and the family was together. We took our girls to Eastern State Pennitenary to visit. Now if any of you like Ghost Hunters you will know this prison was featured here... We didnt see any ghosts but some fantastic architechure and had a really good time. Here are just a couple pics.

Well I knew it couldnt last forever

As we were leaving last night for Riley's open house (which was REALLY cute BTW), I start hearing, thump thump thump from my tahoe

..... So I pull over, Have Melissa check under the truck

Cause I am just sure I am dragging something foreign down the road with me... Nope the coast is clear... but Im still hearing Thump thump thump... What the heck? Now of course you MUST know that I am 3 payments away from owning the big green beast outright... and of course there is something that is going to happen when you are this close to full ownership... So I called my trusty mechanic (AKA... My husband Sean) and did the car noises over the phone to the tune of 100's of talking parents before the show.... Nope, he cant figure it out by my oh so accurate description.(??) So we make it home... thumping all the way (sounds like a bad christmas song).. get a shower... get settled and start watching Glee (I've officially become a Gleek), when my mechanic calls and says... "Come get me... I want to look at the truck"... now how fortunate is it that he just HAPPENED to be at the truck stop for an overnight and not out on the road.... So I trek off to pick him up... and after a thorough evaluation of the patient... diagnosis.... "bad wheel bearing"... Whew... something fixable.. I'm bracing myself for something really bad like.. transmission... something really expensive... but it the whole scheme of car repairs... this one isnt gonna be too awful... So hubby is going to call the shop tomorrow for me as this is something he cant fix in the driveway this weekend (yes he will be home) and we hope they can get it in quickly. But until then... I get to drive the wooo hoooo... (And no honey I will NOT leave any trash in it).. he loves that car more than me... So for the next few days I will be a hot mama!!

Its Sunday Again

Seems they come along way too soon don't they? Well, I survived the weekend and it was a pretty good one. Hubby was home for Saturday... unexpectedly, so that was a nice surprise. It wasnt the whole weekend but we will take what we can get.

FINALLY..... went and got some patio furniture. We hope to be able to see family and friends (hint hint) this summer and do some grilling out, sitting outside with some coffee, tea, something stronger...lol... and enjoying the summer. So here is what I picked out a nice set.... still needs an umbrella but that will be coming soon.

So Come on over and sit a spell.... the housework can wait (though I did get Rileys room cleaned ~~ holy cow that was 2 hours alone, and got a couple of carpets cleaned)

Happy Sunday

Sundays are supposed to be a day of rest... but I dont see that happening. Most of the house is presentable but there is still laundry to be done and the usual stuff... darn those kids for wanting food...lol.

Today I am going to hit our local fleamarket, it covers a couple of acres and there is all kinds of "stuff" to look at. Some times there are lots of treasures, other times its just a looking expedition... so we shall see.

What I am really looking for is something to complete an Amelia Earhart costume. Riley has to dress up as this person for her school project. We have a leather jacket, we have jeans, and goggles... Im really trying to locate an aviators cap... or something close... On the back of her jacket I will tape something with her name on it so they know who she is supposed to be... Will post pics when I get her done.

Other than that, Ive been battling my body. Woke up once this week with a sore neck, woke up this morning with a sore shoulder. Not sure what I've been dreaming about but man Im wrestling with something.
And the dreaded weight is up..... and I think I found the culprit. I have been hooked on Flax Seeds lately... I just take a mouthful and chomp away... I like the taste and the fiber is good too... BUT I looked up the label info last night and about had a heart attack... one cup of these babies has 865 calories and 65 grams of fat...OMG... between a mouthful here and a mouthful there... I bet I eat a cup.. SO... beginning today... There will be a DRASTIC reduction in my consumption.... a teaspoon in my yogurt... and thats IT...

GEEZ....

Happy Mothers Day Eve

First and Foremost... to all you mothers, mothers to be and mothers of those wonderful 4 legged friends HAPPY MOTHERS DAY.
Its amazing the amount of things we get into for our children.

This has been another crazy week... 2 softball games, piano practice, piano recital. Hubby did make it home so that was wonderful!

Not done a whole lot craft wise this week with all the family stuff we have been doing but as you may or may not remember we just bought this house in August, so I am having a wonderful time seeing what has been blooming in my yard.. Thus far we have had daffodils, bleeding hearts, ornamental grasses, tulips and now ....
iris'... I was just admiring a neighbors whose iris' were purple bottoms and white tops.. and hoping mine there that color.... they aren't but... Here they are!!

Purple... yes, but not quite like the neighbors... alsosorry the pic is not the best... but I also have white ones... I may have other colors.... all remains to be seen..... I will keep you posted...

Still havent painted my cheesebox... but I will get there eventually...

Monday Magic

Good Morning friends, just realized what a slacker Ive been lately... no posts in over a week! GASP! Guess I was busy with life.
Last weekend I went to a community yardsale near my house and came away with some treasures... mostly for Riley, but I did have one find I wanted to share with you.

I fount the great cheesebox for $5 dollars. Let me tell you I was excited. There is soooo much potential in this thing and I think I know what I am going to do with it.... keep watching folks!!. OR send me your suggesions... keep in mind my house is blue with lots of colonial blues in it.... I know what I'm planning but I'm open to suggestion.

Also, later in the week, I had a day off before my new job started so I went to a couple of the local Goodwill's here and found these:The jars and bottle I will put bath salts in and the scoop? WHO KNOWS.... I did find a couple of old shutters up in the corner of the attic, so I see a future craft brewing!

2 softball games this week, piano lessons, piano recital, hubby will be home this week so very busy week to come!

I know we are getting closer to Mother's Day. So if your mother is still with you... please do something nice for her. If she is not, light a candle in her memory and send a prayer to heaven. I am blessed with a wonderful mother in law who is like a second mom to me... so Dee if you are reading this... watch your mail!!! Nuff said.

Whew its Friday

WOW what a busy week. Softball games started this week... two back to back and we are Worn Out!!! Melissa got her Beauty and the Beast DVD and Im singing all of those songs in my head again. Im kinda disappointed in the quality of the DVD for what we paid for it.. but its my baby's high school acting debut so... I will deal with it!!!

Here's a pic of my little player... Gotta love those freckles across her face... She's a great 1st baseman... They played will and cheered each other on... Great team this year...

Hard to see in this one, but her hair is in a ponytail. Otherwise she wouldn't look like a boy...lol... This is the first year we have had pants for softball, other years it was shorts....

She is #7 this year!!! Mama will have no voice after the games.. Gott yell for Miss Riley dontcha know!!

Ewww sorry this is so bad... but whoever took it has a bad camera... Meliss is in the center... hold ing basket (green dress.. behind the girl in the red skirt). I will see if I can find some better pics and give Miss Hollywood her shout out as well!!!

Silly Sunday

Quite the chilly morning here in south central PA, but warmer weather is on the way... I hope... I am sitting here trying to talk my 8 yo dd into going to the flea market with me. Doesnt even matter if I buy anything. I just like to go and "window" shop.

Wanted to catch you up on my bath salts. I found the recipe online and decided to try it. Its a mixture of epsom salt, sea salt, table salt and some peppermint essential oil and pink coloring... (its like a peppermint candy). I mixed it allll up and let it sit for 24 hours and put them in really cute jars. Now I need to spice up the jars a bit with some jute or raffia and some prim fabric (gotta find some) and they they will be complete. This stuff smells SOOOOO good!!!

Sorry for the quality of the pic. I am working from a cell phone camera here and some baddddd lighting!

Thats my fun for today. I need to get off here and do allllll the stuff I didnt do yesterday as I was freezing at softball practice and spending time with hubby before he went back on the road. Now I gotta get allll that cleaning done (yuck)... Why oh Why couldnt I win the lottery so I could hire someone to clean for me???

Makeover Monday

Well, I didnt really make over much of anything, but the name is catchy and I have stuff to show you. I wrote last about all the shopping I did and wanted to share some of my bounty... I found

at our local flea market... Its adorable and if I had lots of money and a way to carry all of it... I'd have brought home a dozen, all shapes and sizes.
I also found

which I will hang somewhere.

Now I needed some decoration for my front doors.. So I found 2 beautiful blue baskets and added white flowers and maroon stuff... here it is close up.The baskets are actually a bit darker than what they show. I love them! And I can change the flowers with the seasons if I want.I need to buy some spray sealant and seal the baskets so the weather doesnt destroy them.

I founds a couple of other treasures too.... a basket with an old spoon and rolling pin. I need to figure out what to paint it, a littel shelf for my bathroom and some cute jars for my bath salts... I will show those off in another post... gotta get some stuff done around here!!!.

When it Rains....

You see a double rainbow!

Busy, scary, exciting day here. I had my second interview for a new position. It went very well and I hope to hear from their HR on Monday... if the $$ is there... I'm going.

Came home from work and decided to take the dogs for a walk before I started dinner... Got almost home and there was a black/white pittbull that flew off a neigbors porch after my dog. I literally hung Kennedy in the air to keep her away from her... and she went after Cooper. Now my 100 lb dog is a weinie when it comes to big ish dogs.. so he was trying to get away from her as she is growling and snapping at him. His owner was tryng to grab her, I was trying to grab mine as he pulled out of his collar trying to get away from her.... I told her the next time I see that dog without a leash I was calling the police. Thank God, neither of my dogs were hurt (scared), and Thank God that my youngest daughter was not outside with me.... but it scared me pretty bad....

Im working on a couple projects this weekend ( I took tomorrow off work), gonna melt some beeswax, hit the goodwill stores, buy some fake flowers to put in two blue baskets to hang on my front doors... Will post a pic when they are all done...
I fell like this week just got away from me.!!

Man O Man, what a computer virus can do... been working on my puter for the last couple of days...

Am working on locating boxes for all those others that I promised soap as well... I havent forgotten!

Hubby made it home for Easter so between that and the BEAUTIFUL weather it was a very nice weekend. Now back to work and reality. I had a presentation yesterday and today I have meetings with our vendor.... allllll morning..... Joy Joy... At least the people are nice.

I found another surprise out in the community.... Found a lady who was selling her candle and soap supplies and some raw beeswax... Soooo I went to pick it up! 9 ..... 5 gallon tubs of raw beeswax... yes I said it.... 9... some full, some half full.... Smells so sweet.. so sometime this week (prob this weekend as we have piano, softball etc) I will be melting beeswax to get rid of all the girl and garbage in it... and will have some pure wax for candles or whatever!! hmmm... may try to sell some of it as well...

Well folks.... thats it for me... Gotta go put on my meeting suit and play nice in the corporate sandbox.

Happy Birthday Eve to me... What a day. Got to work and was immediately told that 82 people were being let go.... Keep it quiet.. but be ready for the fallout.. be there for your staff. None of my folks were cut but some of their friends in other departments were.
Very sad. Some have been there for 10+ years, others started about the same time I did. I dont think this company has ever had layoffs before... very telling about the state of the economy.

Well, I guess no one is interested in my soap giveaway... Woo hoo for the 4 of you who signed up!!! You have a 25% chance of winning.

SOUPER SATURDAY

Good Saturday Morning, Ahhh the weekend. Sure wish it would go as slowly as the week does...
Work is frustrating. My current boss resigned and we found out in my unit how the reporting is going to go. Logical step would be to make me the manager as I am second in command and have been involved in all the projects with my boss.... but..... NOOOOOOO not gonna do it that way. We get to report (temporarily) to another units manager, who knows nothing about my unit. And they are going to post the position... I can apply for it if I want to... but like a friend told me, if they wanted me in that position, I would be there by now. And after the meetigng yesterday, it is very clear, I will never be manager of my unit. Therefore, there is no advancement in this company for me. Despite my 7 years of supervisory/managerial experience, I am still not good enough.
So job hunting it is. Found 2 positions that I will be applying for this weekend. Cross your fingers for me!

So... as the weather is gonna be sunny and cool, I decided it was a good weekend for some chicken noodle soup. A family favorite in this house.... Now I have some chickend stock, but am going to add a can of this and a can of that.... If you are watching your sodium, use low sodium and rinse the rest
                            2 cans chick broth
                            2 cans diced chicken
                            1 can corn
                            1 can carrots
                            1 can green beans
                            1 large package of egg noodles
Bring your chicken stock, veggies to a low boil, add the noodles and simmer till done. This soup is better the longer it simmers... Add any spices you wish... I personally use some Mrs Dash....

Doesnt that look yummy!!!! Will hit the spot this evening when the temps start to drop!!!!

Wake Up Wednesday

Good morning to you all!!! My cold is still hanging on for dear life and I feel like a truck ran over me... therefore... no candle making, no soaping, no nuttin. I'm doing good to get to and from work and feed the children!!! I promise I will get there soon!

In light of the fact that spring is just around the corner... on the calendar.... I have decided to post Spring pics of two of my favorite places.... It was sooo warm outside and sunny today... I LOVED IT. I cant wait to take pics of what pops up in my yard in the next couple of weeks... I have seen green peeping thru but as we just bought the house in August... not sure what surprises I may be in store for.

So... my two favorite spring places are....... Washington DC... Can you say Cherry Blossoms?? Except now that I look at it.. this pic might be dogwood... lol... (ok.. pretend people) and my mostest favoritest spring place is Texas... OMG the wildflowers down there are GORGEOUS....

Just something about that color just settles me.

Manic Monday!

Where did the weekend go?? Super busy with Melissa's play. The kids did a wonderful job. I'm so proud of them. Each night the play was sold out so hopefully they raised lots of money. I know the concessions I worked sold out both nights... Thats a good thing! I hope you can see these pics they are really cute...

We has kids come from several counties away to see our musical.

Transformation Thursday

Well the decorating bug has bitten me in the beeee hind (sorry for the pun) and I decided to spruce up the upstairs bathroom.
Now hubby is not a big fan of when I tackle projects so... I didnt tell him... No need to stress him out huh? (I told him after it was done).
So.... my little helper and I went shoppin'. We picked out a great sage green color (So I thought) but was a shade darker than I wanted... It dries lighter... right? UMMM no... how about darker. (I always was a little backwards).... pretty color but just not quite right... sooooo to the basement I went as I KNEW the previous owner left some paint down there.

Hmmm found some eggshell... wonder how this will look... So I took my trusty paint stick and poured..... a lovely sage-ish color for my walls... I am posting pics but be aware... these are the post paint unfinished stuff... so dont look at the mess... The window shade is broken thanks to one of my 4-legged critters chasing a stink bug!

Notice the ugly green sink in the corner... that will be changed someday. And so will the pink shower curtain. I have one with yellow/green/blue in a patchwork pattern that will go much better. Its hard to get pics of the entire bathroom and I know you cant see the lights... but they are handing lights with roses painted on them. The sink also has two mirrors hanging up that I will re-paint the frames to an ivory color to better match.... And i found a beautiful coordinated boarder to but about 1/2way up the wall. I tried to cover the switchplaces but the boarder is too thick. so maybe I can find some tacky paper or something to cover them with. I will post truely after pics as soon as it is all done. I hope to get it done this weekend. Unfortunately, hubby wont get here in time to see our oldest daughter in the school musical. He is NOT happy... but nothing we can do about it now.

Another Soapy Sunday

And a sunny one at that. I am so excited to see the sun. Just stepped outside with the dog and its already nice outside.
I wanted to share my Craigslist find. I love Craigslist!! Over the last couple of years I have gotten tons of stuff off there... Victorian wingback chairs (practically new) with pillows, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, chair, entertainment center, couch, candle/soap stuff (todays story), dressers, chest of drawers, buffet, piano ... etc etc. Im sure I have forgetton a bunch of stuff.
Fridays haul was gotten from a couple who had used the candle/soap stuff to make things for their daughters wedding. Now for any of you who do this.. you know it aint cheap!!! So for $25 let me share what I got:

Its hard to see all the stuff... 2~10 lb tubs of glycerin for soap, multiple soap and candle scents and colors, wicks, plus a roll of wicking, 2 books, multiple candle molds, pot and pan to melt the wax, tart molds~small and large (24 total), bags of sea shells, seashell molds (those are the silicone ones in the pic) another container of wax....ummmm just tons of stuff... probably if you price it all out $150 ... the glycerin and wax alone are probably $100. So I am very excited to start some new recipes.... I need to go online and look for some different scents as well.

I will be doimg more soap this afternoon... I have had a request for oatmeal and brown sugar. so will see what I can do to accomodate!!

Can it Really Be Thursday:?

Wow this week has flown. I guess thats what happens when your coworker is off to China for her baby and you are picking up extra work.. ANNDDD one girl is in piano and working on recital and one is in the school muscial and back and forth to practice... Sheesh, Im tired just thinking bout it! I need a "Moms Taxi" sign for my truck!!!

Well, I am seeing tons of GREAT giveaways and Im so excited that Spring has almost sprung that I too shall have a giveaway!! As most of you know Im not a huge or talented crafter (and if you could see the clutter in my house you would think I have ADD) so I will give away.... SOAP... Now as you have read I am just getting into soaping and quite enjoying it I might add... but am giving it away as fast as I can. I am hoping that some good karma will come back to me and couldnt we all use that right about now!

So.... be prepared... be on the lookout for... Easter/Spring soap... I am having visions of pinks/yellows/greens.. woo hoo Im getting excited here!

Second Sunday Post

As promised from my down in the mouth post... I wanted to share our latest project!
SOY CANDLES.

A couple of weeks ago when I bought my soap supplies, we also picked up some Soy Candle Wax.
Well, last night we decided to get adventurous.....

Miss Riley (who is 8) and I decided to make these candles... We couldnt find the color bar, we did find the fragrance bar, so we went to work.

Mom did all the dangerous stuff... using a double boiler method... aka soup pot and old metal coffee can... we started on our adventure....

The wax melted quickly... the color we use for soap didn't work in the candles.... and we set up our votives for pouring.... aka... dixie cups and pre done wicks. We joked that the melted wax looked like pee.... I preferred apple juice and I wouldnt want to pee in a can...lol....

We poured.... and waited... and stuck a toothpick in the candle to get all the air out... and poured again... known as recapping.... and today... here is what we have....

Beautiful white soy candle votives.(see my coffee can in the back?).. I need to cut the wicks.... and I think we shall burn one today... just to see how it goes...

Honestly, after it was all over... we decided we liked the melt & pour soaps better... and I think we will do more of those today as well.... Riley found a gingerbread man cookie cutter that she wants to use for a mold.....

So another successful project!!!

Searching Sunday

Im contantly amazed at why I (or maybe we... is it just me?) feel guilt.... Guilt and stress about things that are out of my control, guilt over things that others have done... Is it just the weather... because I am battling the winter blues? Do I need light therapy, do I need meds?

Yesterday was a great example. I had to send a mom an email regarding some information I had about her son. I have known this kid for about a year now... I truely believe he is clinically depressed... (no, I am not diagnosing~ am speaking of symptoms Ive seen during my nursing career). An email that he sent my daughter was truely heartbreaking and I literally sat here and cried. It just cried out about the pain that he is in... life is dark for him, he feels hated and alone and the only light in his life was my daughter and now they have broken up... he knows its for the best but he feels like he is in the dark alone..... he has been like this for a while... and battles it fairly successfully, most of the time.

He hinted at suicide, cutting, drinking, pills.... he's one of those clean cut, B student, athletic kids who appear squeaky clean....
So I emailed his mom.... I chickened out and could not do it over the phone.... but I know that if it were my child... I would want someone to let me know...
She picked him up from where he was (in a group thing~ my daughter was there).. and I dont know ~~ or need to know~~ what went on from there....

His mom sent 3 words... Thank you Karen.... I hope it helps... I really do... I love this kid... he is potential to the max.. His mom stresses him out, she pushes him to hard... (again, my opinion from what Ive heard)...

So Why do I feel guilty... he will be angry at my daughter, me... but if he gets some help... its worth it.

Why do we feel guilty over that which we cannot control...
One of the things that bother me.... is when my Mom passed away, we forgot to take shoes to the funeral home... stupid I know... she is prob happier without shoes anyway... but it bugs me... (sorry mom :(...)

I feel guily when I lose it and yell at my kids... over stupid stuff... and even tho I apologize... Im sure they will still remember it. I feel guilty about my sister... I feel like I should be the one to take care of her... even tho she is a grown adult...

Sorry for my ramblings.... just wanted to get these thoughts on paper... will also post on my soy candles that were made last night... lighten things up... Sunny days will soon be here and my mood will lighten... Come on Spring!!!

Young Love

As I watch my oldest daughter, her eyes are downturned, she has lost the bounce in her step, her easy smile is a little less easy... I tell her she is allowed to be depressed, and try to focus on other things for now.

You see, she and her boyfriend just broke up.... probably for good this time... They had a 6 day break a couple of months ago which was heartbreaking to watch. But got back together to try to make it work.
But.... I believe this time it is truely over.

It brings me back to when I lost my first love.... DW... truely the first man I really loved. I was a bit older than she is... but I remember the pain... the loss, the dispair. Fortunately time heals all wounds and of course there were others as obviously I am married... but you never really forget. Its not just the person that you lose, it's the hope of a life together, all the plans you have for your life... children, travel, the white picket fence, the sharing of all the good times and the bad... that loss is just as hard as is losing the human contact.

I wish for her that I could make it better... that I could say something, do something that would make it hurt less... make it go away... make it tolerable. But this is something that no one else can fix.... she will heal... and smile and find some other boy that will make her head spin... but not now... she needs to grieve.

I think back to when DW and I broke up... I was crying to my mom .... AGAIN and she told me, that I was not dead, I was alive and had my whole life ahead of me and that I was grieving like someone had died.... and thinking back... it was not someone... it was something.... that hope for my future with him...

We have been in touch over the years... he is doing well... I still ask about his family... its easy now... friendly...
That is what I hope for her. They will see each other every day.. they are in high school together and he has one more year.. They are in the school play together... he the light, she on stage...

This too shall pass, the smile will come back and she will be herself again, with just a small part of her heart that is gone..
But that is the wonderous thing about people... our hearts grow larger the more we love...
Her sun will shine again..... I love you Melissa and only want you to Dance!!

Super Soapy Sunday

This morning was the morning to pop my soaps out of the molds. I was on a soapmaking adventure last night. I still dont have any cool molds right now, but did the basics and came out pretty good.

I made some cold cream soap.... white with red swirl in it... floral fragrance. I had hoped I had swirled the color to the bottom but it didnt make it. Smells great tho!. Also made some coffee/cream soap, smells like vanilla coffee...ummmm tried to get hubby to use that one but.. no go.

A few more that I made were chunk soap... those are the clear with the blue chunks, Green with the blue chunks (which smells like apple) and the white cream soap with purple in it... Smells heavenly. i wish I could attach smells here too!

One of the prettier ones turned out to be the layered soap... kinda looks like a watermelon soap... without the seeds. I need to cut this into slices but wanted to show it anyway.

Wellllll there are my soaps...I used one of the white cream/purple ones this morning... feels nice and silky. Lathered up pretty good too....

My next soap I will make with a clear base, add some coffee grounds... would be a nice prim soap.... especially if I dont make it toooo square. I will have to obtain some opinions!

Super Saving Saturday

I am going to share with you one of my favorite stores. Not only for the prices, but i generally go at the same time so I see the same employees and they are always soooo friendly. Now I can shop anywhere, but if you give me GREAT customer service.... Im there!! Ever heard of "The Telephone Doctor"? This is a customer service educational series... The lady who does it is sooo right on... If you work in a CS field or just want some learing for the employees... check it out. It's so worth it. AND she came to speak to us in person as well. She's a heck of a funny person!
Ok... enough of my plug there.

My fav store right now is.... Aldi's. I know many of you arent close to one... and Im sorry about that. I try to use coupons as much as I can, but I find I can still save money over that at this store (they do not take coupons by the way as they are non-name brands)

Soapy Tuesday

Hello all!!! The more I read and check out all the sites for making soap the more I want to do. It is not a cheap hobby to start, you need the bases and fragrances and colors and molds... But oh what different kinds and color and stuff there is....

The colores are pretty, and its USEABLE. How frugal is that. I believe this weekend, I will make some coffee soap, maybe some cold cream soap... just for fun. I love all the stuff you can do with it....

Im in crafting nirvana right now...lol.

My other new passion is SCRABBLE... As my hubby is an OTR truck driver we certainly arent together alot .... so after he stops driving at night we get on POGO and play Scrabble... It all good fun nad helps my spelling....lol....

Short and sweet, but wanted to pop on and say HI... I know many of you do Prim stuff so will see what I can do. I know I can package prim... so its a start!

Happy Valentines Day

Hello friends, I wanted to wish each one of you a Very Happy Valentines Day. If your hunny is near or far, give'em a squeeze. We all need to hear I love you!!
The girls V-day cards are waiting on the counter with a small something tucked away, the 4 legged critters got a goodie too, so its all good.

For Valentines Day, I have embarked on a new hobby ~~ My hubby is gonna kill me....lol~~~ Soap Making. I am starting with Melt & Pour because it is easy and my girls can help, but the more I read, the more I want to venture into Cold Process (using Lye and stuff like goats milk, olive oil, shea butter etc) but that will have to wait until I can get a digital scale (you have to measure by wt) and a stick blender and away I go.

Riley (my youngest) helped with the adventure last evening as you can see. We ended up melting the goat milk base in the microwave because someone was a little excited and couldnt wait that long!!!

We used a lovely pink color and some floral fragrance and TA DA.... the finished product turned out just beautifully! We are going to give the hearts away to our friends for V-Day and the bars.... who knows... Maybe another giveaway?? I wish you all could smell them. They are lovely.....
So for all my family and friend.... You know whats coming your way for birthdays, holidays... (They are so patient with my experiments).

Snowbound Wednesday

Good morning everyone. Well we are snowed in again, which is why I have been MIA for a few days. 24 inches the first round and we are expecting 12-20 more!!! Gotta love February!
My company closed today (which is almost unheard of), schools are closed but Hubby had to trek into work. He took my SUV with 4WD instead of his mustang! Smart choice huh?

Wanted also to share a bit more of my family... the 4 legged ones anyway! They keep me as busy as the two legged ones do!

This is Kennedy, she is a 4 month West Highland Terrier that we got when she was about 7 weeks old... She's Mama's baby!

This is Cooper. He's our 2 year old Chocolate Lab. He weighs about 100 lbs and thinks he weighs 8...like Kennedy.

These are my cats Buddy (in the bag) and Chevy amid the mess. All my pets were rehomed pets! Im proud of that.

And Last but Not Least .... our two Guinea Pigs... Roscoe and Cody. Roscoe is the Black/White one and Cody is Brown... For gp's they are huge!!!

Well.. now you have met my 4 legged critters! Welcome to my Zoo!! May post some 2 legged critters eventually!

Last night was snowy enough, hubby and youngest daughter shoveled about 6 inches off my deck, driveway etc. Howevr, this morning we woke up to a winter wonderland. My poor Westie ~~ can't even walk in it. She had to go pottie inside on a pee pad. And we are expecting about 6 more. Should be fun.
Thank God my hubby is here to help shovel and I have a horrible head cold and am losing my voice (tho the family likes that ).
Here is a pic of a chair on my deck.... We have about 18 inches I would guess!

I saw this and just had to share... especially as my previous post was talking comfort food!

I think I may just try it this weekend.... then I can give you an update!!

Coffee Delight Cake-In-A-Mug
Makes: 1-2 servings Total Time: 5 min

Category: Desserts Sub Category: Cakes
what you need

4 Tbsp. plain flour
4 Tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. Maxwell House Instant Coffee
1 egg
3 Tbsp. milk
3 Tbsp. oil
2 capfuls vanilla
3-4 Tbsp. assorted (optional) add-ins: Baker's Coconut Flakes, chocolate chips, Planter's Nuts, candy bits

make it
Add dry ingredients to a LARGE Coffee Mug and mix around with a fork. Add egg, mix thoroughly. Measure into your mug the milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix well.
The last step is to fold in your choice of optional add-ins (all or some).
Place mug in microwave and cook for 3 minutes (1000 watts). Cake will rise above top of mug-it's ok. Cool and eat!

You just KNOW I'm adding Chocolate!!!

Ready for the Snow?

It's a comin'. The word is out that we are expecting about a foot of the white stuff but thank the stars, no ice!!. I gave you my Pam tip yesterday to help keep that snow from sticking to your shovel.

Now there is a couple of good things about being snowed in.. (Please don' throw things at me!!)
1. You can eat ALL kinds of yummy comfort foods...
2. You can get a jump start on all that cleaning you have been postponing.

Now for the food.... I'm not sure what I'm gonna make this weekend.. but I would bet its gonna be fattening.
But for cleaning, I do have a couple of tips for you.

You know those annoying dryer sheets that seem to end up everywhere after you do laundry? Take a used dryer sheet and use it to clean your chrome on your sinks, your mirrors, etc. They have just enuff scrub in them to get the job done and are soft enough not to scratch anything! And they are FREE.

Also, with a Hubby, 2 kids, 2 dogs and myself, I am seeing spots of mysterious origin on my carpets. But I dont have time to clean the whole carpet (I really do ... I just dont want to )... so:
Get out that can of shaving cream.... rub some of it into the spot with a wet cloth. Let is set for 5-10 minutes and remove that stain! Works great on cloth furniture as well. (for my disclaimer~~ check for colorfastness first).
I promise I will post some pics of my zoo this weekend, so you will see just why I need to clean my carpet!

Good afternoon folks. Just wanted to drop by and say hello. We are expecting yet another lovely winter wonderland begining tomorrow and hope everyone is getting prepared....
I wanted to share a tip with you to help with that winter shoveling. I know that heavy snow likes to stick to my snow shovel and that I have to tap it to get the snow off.
Well here is a tip for you!!

Take that Pam you have tucked away in your pantry and give your snow shovel a coating. This helps to prevent the snow from sticking and it slides right off. Not only is this great for cooking (as One Simple Country girl has noted) but it works around that house.

Also this stuff is great for those locks that are sticking and your WD40 is lost in the garage. Now I dont want to think about what this stuff is made of (ignornance is bliss), but it sure is handy to have around.

It was suggested to me that I post pics of my lovely 4 legged canine children, who have learned to tell time (5AM on the nose). My next blog hopefully will show you a before and after of my Westie ~ Kennedy after I attempt to groom her and make her look less like a whooley sheep and more like a dog.

I was out shopping this weekend and saw the cutest little angel/caroler/doll and decided she would be my first giveaway. Good afternoon everybody. Sorry I've been AWOL for the past couple of days, but the old homestead has been plagued by evil... sickness that is... Both of my girls have been under the weather, and I am teetering. However, I refuse to give in or I will be overtaken. I dont have time to be sick!!!

Today's frugal lesson is about time. We hear so much about saving money and saving this and saving that... however, time is our biggest wasted asset.
Think about it. How many times have you started one project only to be sidetracked by another more fun, more demanding, more something project. So you jump from this to that and none of them get completed as quickly as you hoped to.
And being frugal with your time also includes your resting time as well. We humans need to rest and recharge our batteries otherwise we are no good for anyone.

So when you are planning out your day/week etc, be frugal with your time and energy. It will go a long way in keeping your health and your sanity intact.

Good Morning all, Well the best laid plans are always interuppted by my loving family. Both of my girls are home sick today and therefore Mommy is working from home. So thankful that I have that option if I need it.

Last night I had a representive from Andersen windows come for an estimate. Now, dont get me wrong... they are top notch quality and very very will made products... however, when he gave me a final estimate I almost fainted...

21 windows... 37,000 dollars... yes that is correct... not a typo.... OMG that is a HUGE percentage of what my house even cost me. There is NO WAY... unless I hit the lottery... that I could ever afford to replace all of these windows.
I know they will have to be replaced at some point... our house is 110 years old... and some of the windows have probably been here quite a while. So I guess I will have to replace a few at a time.
One of my friends suggested another company as well, so I may get an estimate from them as well...

Still trying to think of a giveaway.. I need more followers so I have to come up with a focus/ a gimmick...

Today my gimmick is Frugal!!! Today's frugal tip is ...... Obtain at least 3 estimates when having work done. Check with the Better Business Bureau and remember... cheapest is NOT always the most Frugal!!

SOOTHING Sunday

NOT!!!! I had high hopes of being able to grab my newspaper, cup o coffee and relaxing this AM followed by some quality reading time or movie watching.
But ALAS, it was not to be.

My oldest daughter and her boyfriend broke up last night. It breaks my heart to see her so sad. I know very well that we all go through it and we all survive but as a mom I am supposed to be protecting her and nurtuing her. So between crying and being angry today ... shes a mess... Ahhh this too will pass.

Then my sister calls, I love her very much but she has such bad luck with men... I wont go into details but I may write a book and sell it to Hollywood... its just so dramatic and unbelievable. So if you believe in prayer, please send one her way.

And to top it off, my poor husband was stuck for almost a week in California getting work done on his truck... FINALLY got out of the area only to get halfway to his destination and the stinking truck is acting up again. We just cannot win for losing.

So... Happy Sunday all. I am ready to go back to work and get some routine back in my life!!

And FYI, am thinking about a giveaway... want some more followers to my blog.... so... gotta get those creative juices flowing.

Family Friday

I am sitting here on the computer amazed at the technology of today... (yes I know I wrote about it earlier too). I got a friend request on Facebook from my cousins son. I have not seen this kid since he was probably about 7 or so...
I just remember this little skinny blond kid. Who knows, between all the family that is befriending me I might actually be able to do my family's geanology on my dad's side. (its been done on my mom's side).

This weekend is just some grocery shopping and some house keeping. I did go pick up some stuff at Aldi's tonight. I thoroughly recommend that store... I have found very few things I like from there, even the fruits/veggies are pretty good. I was chatting to the cashier tonight ~~ I see her quite often there and she was telling me that per their store policy they throw away a lot of food.... If their bread is 5 days from the expiration date they throw it away in the dumpster. Almost makes me want to go dumpster diving.

How sad is it that Haitians are starving right now and Americans throw away perfectly good food....

There is my commentary for the day.
Here is my frugal tip for the day:
Shop at Aldi's and dont buy more than you will eat!

Thirsty Thursday

Nothing exciting to talk about today.. .but I'm thirsty so... thats it!
My favorite drink is Turkey Hill diet Green Tea. I could drink a gallon a day (I have) and still want more.
When we lived in New Hampshire my brother in law actually brought me up two gallons when they came to visit. It was great.

Now they have it in NH, but hey I'm back in PA so I can head to ye ole grocery store and pick some up myself.

So... what is your favorite drink..? Why do you like it? Thats your assignment. You don't have to reply... but something random to think about....

Just got an email from my cousin, who I have no seen since I was probably 17 and she was probably 7ish... She looks just like a combination of her mom and dad so very recongnizable to me. She is going to scan some old pics of my dad when he was younger. Im excited. Lots of our pics disappeared... (sorry Mary.) think they got lost in a few of my sister moves... so I dont have many of Mom or Dad anymore....

Anywho.... Will post them here if/when she sends them... I can't wait.

Marvelous Monday

Howdy folks... Had 2 folks tell me that I have an accent...lol.. can't imagine why they would think that!

Today was a nice, fairly warm Monday morning. I did an orientation call for a part time teaching position and went for an interview for another part time.. Lets see you pans out first!

Spring is in the air... at least that is what I am telling myself. I am sure we will pay for the warm (40's) weather but for now I will enjoy it.

I am still watching all the rescuing down in Haiti and its just heartbreaking. There were TONS of orphans before and there will be even more now. I wish the adoption process wasnt so lengthy and expensive. I have the room and the love and even the money for the day to day... but the $$$$ thousands do adopt... I cannot do. Ahhh well if the Good Lord wants me to... He will provide.

My friend at work is getting her sweet little princess from China soon (crossing fingers here)... and she is just darling. She will have wonderful loving parents.. what more can a child hope for.

Scrumptious Saturday

Good morning everybody. We survived the flood and I'm not seeing any additional water so hopefully the Ark has landed.
Today is my tidying up day and I'm planning on doing some cooking as well... Cool weather turns me into a chef/Betty Crocker.

Today on the menu... Crockpot Lasagna, Hamburger Soup, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip/Cranberry cookies.

Crockpot lasagna is simple, just layer your ingredients into the crockpot and let it cook on low until done.... simply done.
Hamburger soup -- I brown 2 lbs of hamburger or turkey burger with 1 packet of lipton onion soup mix. (1lb for soup, 1lb for lasagna). In a large soup pot I add about 2 quarts of stock (veggie,beef or chicken) and add to that the hamburger, frozen peas/corn, can of carrots (or frozen or fresh) and let it simmer until frozen veggies are unfrozen. While simmering, add egg noodles ( I use PA Dutch ones because they are local and skinny) and simmer until they are done.... This soup goes fast in my house so I make a HUGE pot and adjust as I have ingredients.

Oatmeal cookies are as follows:
take the top off the oatmeal container... turn over.... use the recipe there and substitute the raisins with 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and 1/2 cup dried cranberries.
These are delicious.... I did cut the sugar down in these by subbing the white sugar in it for applesauce.. make its a bit healthier.

Flooded Friday

WEEEELLLL.. We did go to the Farm Show... We saw, we ate and ate some more... Fresh made potato powered donuts, chocolate milkshake, french fries, deep fried mozzarell cheese cubes... YUMMM. Artery clogging, fattening, totally bad for you... but it tastes so good.

My youngest daughter wanted to bring home a cow.... I wanted to bring home an alpaca.... we came home with neither.

However, we came home to a bit of a problem. The water faucet in the garage decided to come loose and flood the place. Three inches of standing water, water shooting up to the ceiling!! Oh my Lord! Got the water shut off, swept out, plumber called and $100 bucks later I am the proud owner of a sealed shut pipe.

I've got to go out an make sure that nothing got ruined... but I am betting some of my hubby's magazines did... sigh....
Well its fixed now and I'm exhausted.

Happy Friday all!!! I'm off work today so a 3 day weekend for me WOO HOO.... I have a couple of parent teacher conferences today, then after my youngest is home from school (around lunchtime), we will be heading to the FARM SHOW...

Farm Show www.farmshow.state.pa.us/ is an almost two week event made up of agricultural events, rodeo stuff, crafters, vendors and FOOD.

Today I plan on sampling the potato donuts, milkshakes to die for, deep fried mozzerella cheese cubes and who knows what else I may find there... Either way... Im gonna enjoy and will share my adventures when I return home.

Tragic Thursday

A bit sad this morning. I am sitting with my cup o coffee this morning watching the news on the Haiti earthquake and feeling blessed on one hand that my life has not been turned upside down (which sounds really selfish), and on the other hand very sad as I cannot imagine losing everything and not being able to do anything about it. If you can, support God's children.... thru your church, American Red Cross or even in your prayers. These families not only have lost material items... but mother's have lost children, husband's have lost wives, children have lost parents... it is heartbreaking.

In my own little world, I found out this morning that one of my college professors has passed away. Dr Stuart McGhee... who taught my 8AM Western Civ class... He truely made education come alive!! He yelled, he jumped on desks, he CHALLENGED you to be excited about life and live it! He will be greatly missed.

Now for totally non-depressing stuff... I am loving the Facebook posting of changing your pics back to a retro picture... now we are getting to see folks as children or younger adults... I personally don't have one online but hoping someone will send me one or I can scan one.... they are too cute....

Enough rambling... my coffee cup is empty and its time to start the day!!!

Well, as you can see I did a little cosmetic work to the blog last night. Tell me what you think. If you haven't guessed by now, blue is truely my favorite color. The 100+ year old Victorian we just bought was made for me. The formal living room is painted blue, the living room has blue in the wallpaper pattern. I love my house... even if its old and drafty. This spring we hope to do some painting in the dining room, which is currently pink-purple.... hmmm cream and blue maybe? As soon as I can figure out how to put pics in my posts, I will share those with you.

I was thinking last night as I was updating the blog about how technology has changed our lives even from when we were children. I was watching home movies from the 60's/70's of my family and its amazing the quality of movies now. Then we were not able to call on a phone from anywhere, heck many of us didnt have phones. Computers in the home were unheard of and now the majority have at least one in the home or access to a computer thru work, library, friend etc.

No video games, no dvd's... as a kid... if you wanted to play, you played with what you had or you rounded up friends or family... Were they the good ole' days? In some ways... yes.... However, our kids will think NOW are the good ole' days when they are grown with kids of their own...

Gotta go pluck my gray hair.... geez getting old talking about the olden days!!

Manic Monday

Is it a Manic Monday for you? Do what you can to prep the night before. Lay those clothes out, pack that lunch.. you know the drill.

Monday got off to a COLD start. 15 degrees this morning with a windchill of 9. I am starting to feel like Old Man Winter has moved into South Central PA to stay. However, warmer weather is just around the corner... so the weatherman says.
I am taking my daughters to The Farm Show at the end of the week (after parent teacher conference and a few other errands to do). Its a HUGE show with all the latest and greatest in farm equipment, animal competitions, crafters and the best part is the FOOD... potato donuts, milkshakes to die for and other artery hardening goodies. Heck, we go as much for the food as the other sights.

You will see a big change to the blog coming soon... I am learning about templates and links and all kinds of other techy stuff and thanks to some good old fashioned googling.... this might be a pretty cool place to visit.

So steal away a few mintues to yourself, come on in and tell me what you think.

New Beginnings

Happy Sunday all.... I was inspired by someone to start my own blog. Just wanted to sit and chat for a while, to learn new things, new ideas and share some of my own.
Today was a pretty productive day. Got some cleaning done, coupons clipped and cookin' done to boot.
Am really ready for Spring... the cold has been here long enough. Wouldnt be so bad except my puppy likes to have company when she goes potty... Should have gotten a puppy in the summer when its not so darned cold trying to potty train her.... ha ha.
